How do you want to engage with your customers?
I love talking about my pieces with my customers. Learning about where my art is going to find it’s forever home is what I’m all about!
I’m such a people watcher, it’d be super cool to be able to observe themm while they check it out. Bonus points if I can sip on some latte art and enjoy and sweet treat at the same time!
I don’t! I’m one of those introverted artists and would rather handle everything as remotely as possible.
I’d love to be able to meet them at a planned event where my art is the showcase, so we can talk about it and share our thoughts on art in general.
2 / 9
What kind of art do you create?
High-end bespoke pieces or large, expensive paintings that need some wall space to showcase properly.
A little bit of everything. My art goes through phases. Paintings, sculpture, textiles, you name it!
I’m a new artist, and have just discovered my style. I’d love to see it displayed somewhere local.
Lots of smaller pieces that would be easy to ship inexpensively.
3 / 9
What’s your creative process like?
I’m heavily inspired by the great painters, and I love talking about the Masters amongst a well-educated community of other art enthusiasts.
I love to just dive in and start creating. Any medium is fair game, and I’ve been known to mix them together.
I like to record my processes so I can reflect on them later and learn from them. Sometimes, I have just as much fun editing the footage as I do creating the art.
I love to put on my favorite coffee shop playlist and sip a cold brew while dreaming up my next piece.

How much of a collection have you created?
Oh, I’m not even sure a career in art is right for me. But I have been creating some things that I’m quite proud of...
I have way too much art. I just keep creating and it’s starting to pile up all over my house. I’m running out of wallspace!
I’ve got a carefully crafted and curated collection waiting for the right walls to host them.
I have a bunch of different bits and pieces from all of my different phases and passions.

Who are your art icons?
Banksy, Shepherd Fairy, Space Invader. Street artists who are a bit anti-establishment.
Michelangelo, Leonardo Davinci. Classical artists who created works of beauty that stood the test of time.
Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol. Controversial artists who challenged the way people saw art.
Van Gogh, Frida Khalo, Gustav Klimt. Artists who channeled their emotions into works that affected their audiences.

What’s your ideal outcome from selling your art?
Money money money! I’m tired of being a starving artist!
To create community and interact with my customers.
To establish myself as a professional artist and voice in the art world.
To clear out the excess art I have laying around my studio.

Your collector leaves you a 5 star review. What does it say?
So happy with my Market buy! This one-of-a-kind piece was waiting for me, along with a story from the artist! I can’t wait to hang it in my front foyer! (3)
Fast shipping, excellent packaging, nothing was damaged. The piece itself matched the picture and the proof of authenticity card was a nice touch. (1)
Added a new piece to my collection after attending the gallery event at Well Hung. Got to meet the artist and we had a lovely conversation about the influence of Cubism on modern abstraction in advertising. Can’t wait to show off my purchase at the country club. (2)
I was standing in line waiting for my tall, skinny, oat milk chai latte when I spotted this gem hanging behind the register. I just knew I had to take it home, and I love knowing I’m supporting a local artist. (4)

“I really believe in my work and in no way think I'm taking advantage of anyone. I feel generous when selling my art.” - Mark Kostabi
“As an artist, you don't stop making art because people are not buying it.” - Damien Herst
“I will never forget what it was like to be poor and that is why it is so important to me that my work be accessible to all people.” - Romero Britto

You should sell your art... Online!
You’re an artist who creates because it’s your passion, and selling has never really been your motivation. But, art supplies are expensive and you kinda like the idea of funding your next piece with the sale of your last. Why not set up a Shopify or Etsy account to simplify your sales experience and declutter your studio?
Not all artists are in it for the fame and glory, and you’d rather hide behind a computer screen than shake hands at gallery openings and chit chat at Farmers’ Markets.
You’re here to create — for expression, for therapy, for meditation.
In fact, the idea of talking about your art and creative process is enough to send you running to your brightly lit studio to hide behind your stockpile of completed pieces.
By creating an online store to sell your artwork, you can skip the people part almost completely, only having to interact with the world when it’s time to actually ship your masterpieces to their new homes. And even that can probably be made No Contact these days.
Just take some high quality photos of your work, list, and sell!
There’s a bit more to it than that, clearly, but once the framework is laid your art shop will run like clockwork, and you’ll be free to spend your time and energy in the studio, creating more art to sell to more of your online following.
You can even generate art sales through your already existing social media accounts like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok!
Here are some tips to help your Online gallery win Best In Show...
When online presence is such a large part of successful sales, it’s important to get it right from the beginning.
Spend some time creating consistent branding, cultivating a professional but engaging voice, and targeting your ideal audience, and you’ll be able to establish yourself as a professional artist in a world of hobby crafters and Marketplace spammers.
“Art is not just a thing; with every purchase, the buyer also receives a piece of your creative spirit.” — Carolyn Edlund

What value does your art offer?
How is your customer service?
What is the quality of your product?
What are your policies?
What do customers already think about your business?

You should sell your art… in a Gallery!
You’re a creative with class, and you want the esthetic of your sales showroom to reflect that. The sleek white walls and professional lighting in a gallery showcase your work and draw in the type of collector who would appreciate your upscale style and chic collection of work.
You love everything there is about the art world, not just the creative process behind your work. You’ve followed the greats throughout your long artistic journey and always admired the way their work looked displayed in grand galleries and crowded shows.
You love to hear the buzz of people whispering their reactions when they see a piece on a wall for the first time, and the events that can be held at a gallery offer an opportunity for you to assemble your people for an evening of contemplation and shop talk.
A gallery of wide renown can help your work capture the attention of serious collectors, and you know your pieces are in good hands when handled by professionals.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when shopping around for a gallery to host your collection…
Galleries don’t display your art for free. The overhead and reputation of the walls you’re using come at a cost, and will be reflected in the final sale price of your piece. Most galleries will double your original price, so take that into consideration when pricing your work.
Also, some galleries will require a non-competition agreement that can limit other avenues for art sales. Read the fine print on any contracts before you add your signature.
In the end, a gallery is a great way to sell your art if you don’t want any of the hassle of actually selling your art. From sale, to delivery, and even invoicing, a gallery is your one stop shop for easy art sales.
“There is no ‘must’ in art, because art is free" — Wassily Kandinsky

You should sell your art… at a Market Stall
You love everything about art. You love to create it, share it on social media, and talk about it. There’s nothing you love more than meeting the people who are going to be taking a piece of your art home with them.
Selling your art at a market stall is ideal for you because it allows you to get the personal touch that you crave when you work alone for hours on end in your studio. Your fellow vendors can quickly become family that you can’t wait to see every time you set up your booth.
You love to share the stories of what inspired each piece, and hear about the feelings and emotions they inspire in your loyal collectors. And your pieces just beg to be examined in person.
Sometimes, photographs don’t do justice to art and the intimacy of a real world booth allows your customers to get up close and personal — and they can see your work with their own eyes, too!
Plus, a market booth allows you to showcase all the different types of art that you create, and allows your customers to touch and feel their pieces before they take them home.
Here's a tip to make your stall stand out from the rest…
How you display your art is just as important as how good your art is.
A table that is littered with a mishmash of non-cohesive work is more likely to repel than attract, so turn your creative eye to the aesthetic of your display.
A clean, neutral tablecloth makes for a subtle backdrop, and simple, well curated groupings of similar pieces can help you sell better than flashing lights and an overabundance of options.
Bonus Tip: Add your art to your packaging. Slip purchases into bags printed with your art, or add a mini-piece bookmark in with their sales receipt.
“The principle of true art is not to portray, but to evoke” — Jerzy Kosiński

You should sell your art… in a Coffee Shop!
You’re a creator who doesn’t want to put a lot of effort into the business side of things, but you still want your art to be more accessible to the masses. Less of a high end gallery type, your art would be more comfortably at home in the fragrant atmosphere and acoustic vibes of your local coffee shop.
You aren’t all that interested in rubbing elbows with the upper echelon of the art world, and the idea of a whole event planned around your work — and you — seems a little daunting.
But the idea of your pieces gracing the walls of your local beanery makes your little creator heart happy. You especially love when a piece sells and you can imagine who in the shop bought it.
Is it the guy with the high maintenance coffee order and fondness for vegan brownies? Or was it Funky Glasses Girl, who blatantly reads poetry while waiting for her Tea Breezer and granola yoghurt?
Here's a tip to take the grind out of selling in coffee shops…
Choose pieces that complement the décor of the shop — without fading completely into the background.
People are spending more and more time glued to the screens in their hands, and it takes something eye-catching to grab their slim attention.
But you don’t want to go too far and risk clashing with the calming coffee shop vibes. Remember, this isn’t a gallery, so being provocative isn’t necessarily the goal.
"The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude." – Friedrich Nietzsche
